What is a prosthodontist?

A prosthodontist is a type of dentist who specializes in replacing and restoring teeth. While a general dentist can handle routine care like cleanings, fillings, and basic crowns, a prosthodontist has advanced training to deal with more complex dental problems. They go through three additional years of education after dental school to learn how to treat people who have many missing or damaged teeth, need dentures, dental implants, or full mouth reconstructions.

Prosthodontists are also experts in making teeth look natural and function properly, helping people chew, speak, and smile with confidence. If someone needs dentures that fit well, has bite problems, or wants to improve the appearance of their teeth, a prosthodontist is the specialist to see. They are sometimes called the “architects of the smile” because they focus not just on fixing teeth, but on restoring the whole mouth in a way that looks and feels right.
